A Bit About Me

Hello I'm Mark and welcome to my website.

After attaining my BSc In Computer Studies at Sheffield Hallam University I went on to start my career as a Trainee Programmer at Experian in Nottingham.  Remaining with Experian for 10 years I reached the level of Analyst Programmer.

My work at Experian largely consisted of programming using mainframe languages and towards the end of my time there I moved more towards PC based platforms.

Whilst working for Experian I was unfortunately involved in a major Road Traffic Accident which left me in a coma for several months; this was followed by a further 9 months as an inpatient in hospital.  Recovery and Rehabilitation was a long and difficult journey but eventually I returned to work at Experian on a part-time basis.

After approx. 5 years back at work on a part-time basis, I was unable to continue in the role due to ongoing pain caused by the RTA. I went on to undertake several more years of rehabilitation in order to be able to manage my health and the subsequent pain.

Alongside this I started to undertake voluntary work in order to keep myself active and contributing to society. This included volunteering at a local primary school as a Classroom Assistant and later as a School Governor and also as a Committee member of a local disability swimming group.

After almost 4 years of rehabilitation and voluntary work I found myself ready to return to work and started employment as Fraud Analyst with the airline 'bmi'.  This was a really interesting role which largely involved investigating and resolving fraudulent bookings. This came to an end after almost 5 years when the company was taken over and then ceased trading.

Since then I have undertaken an AAT Level 2 'Certificate in Accounting' and have continued to undertake voluntary work including : as a Treasurer for my local disability swim group, as a Newsletter Editor for the Macular Society (Loughborough Group) and assisting with the delivery of a cooking class to residents in a Leonard Cheshire Home situated in Sileby, Leicestershire.

After such a gap in employment I found it increasingly difficult to move back into work despite my qualifications and experience.  Finally, in 2019 whilst considering career options, I was introduced to the idea of freelancing as an Admin/ Clerical Assistant on a self-employed basis and this is what I have been doing ever since. I spent some time developing my business plan and offer of services and secured my first customer in August 2019.
